When You DON’T Need an Emergency Plumber

There are plenty of companies out there that have 24/7 availability or are willing to help out in an emergency situation. The thing to realize is that nobody really wants to be pulled from their slumber for something that isn’t a true emergency. There is absolutely nothing wrong with calling an emergency plumber if you have water cascading from the ceiling or your toilet is overflowing and showing no signs of stopping. However, there are several situations in which you don’t need an emergency plumber and can safely wait until normal business hours. Here are a few examples:

  • A dripping faucet- While a dripping faucet can waste quite a bit of water over the course of a month, it isn’t going to use that much if you wait a few hours to call the plumber. In addition, if the dripping is driving you bonkers, you can temporarily shut off the water to the faucet using the valve under the sink.
  • A clogged drain- If you have one sink or shower that isn’t draining properly and you have others you can use, you don’t have much more than an inconvenient situation, certainly not enough to call an emergency plumber. On the other hand, if you have one shower and nobody can use it, you might not want to wait from Friday night through Monday morning or things could get a bit difficult.
  • Installations- Picking up a cool, new faucet and wanting it installed right away isn’t a reason for an emergency plumber. Exercise a bit of patience and save yourself the extra fee of an emergency visit.
  • Minor leaks- While some leaks are definitely an emergency situation, if you have one in a spare bathroom, for example, and can just shut off the water for the time being, you could wait until business hours to have the leak resolved.

Here at Rainbow Plumbing & Heating, we are happy to help with serious plumbing emergencies after business hours, but we will be the first to advise you that waiting whenever possible is the best course of action.
