Your water heater should work like a well-oiled machine. It should work so well that you hardly notice it. Of course, when your water heater starts acting up, then you start to give it more thought. There’s nothing like a stream of off-colored water pouring from your faucet to spring you into action. Issues with your home’s water aren’t only annoying, but they could be an indication that you’d benefit from water heater repair services.
Not sure if you need water heater repair? Keep an eye out for these four things:
- Water Temperature Issues- A freezing cold shower might wake you up at the crack of dawn, but if that’s not how you want to start your morning, then you probably want to take a look at your water heater. This could be a simple fix, such as adjusting the temperature on your water heater’s thermostat. However, the real issue may not be the thermostat’s settings. Causes range from sediment buildup in the tank to a malfunctioning heating element, a faulty thermostat, a wiring issue, or something else. If you’re unsure of what the source of the problem could be, you might be better off calling a professional to come in and determine if it requires water heater repair.
- Water Discoloration- Rust-colored water can be a sure sign of corrosion. This usually requires water heater repair in the form of a plumber replacing a corroded anode rod. If the corrosion extends to the tank, then you might have to replace the tank as well.
- Bad Water Odor- Sewage smells could mean that bacteria are growing inside of your water tank. If the water starts to smell like sulfur, then it could be due to a pilot light that went out, a faulty anode rode, or an issue with the gas line.
- Leaking Tank- If your tank is leaking, you might hear a sizzling sound coming from your water heater or find a pool of water at the foot of the tank. You’ll want to determine where the leak sprung from, if possible. Leaks from the top of the tank are usually due to a valve issue. Leaks at the bottom of the tank often signal something more serious like corrosion.
If you’ve experienced one or more of these issues, it’s probably time to look into water heater repair. Contact us today for more information on our water heater repair and other plumbing services.
