Your kitchen is made up of several complex plumbing components that you take advantage of every day. When one of these components stops working properly, you need it fixed right away to resume use as usual. It’s best to leave the repairs and replacements to professional plumbers, but there are a few things you can solve on your own. Here are a few common kitchen plumbing problems and how you can fix them.

  • Smelly garbage disposal: Your garbage disposal is a key player in your kitchen plumbing. Repairs can be difficult, but the upkeep doesn’t need to be. If your garbage disposal smells foul, you can easily fix it by running a few ice cubes and lemon or orange rinds through it to clear away the grime and freshen the scent. If you’re still having issues or more complex problems with your garbage disposal, you should call the plumber.
  • Leaky faucet: Sometimes, a leaky faucet is as simple as having buildup on the aerator beneath the faucet handle. You can easily remove the aerator and clean it to see if this stops the leak. If the leak continues, or you don’t feel comfortable removing your aerator, you can call the plumber.
  • Clogged pipes: This is a common bathroom and kitchen plumbing problem that can be easily avoided by simply being careful with what you wash down the sink. If you do have a clogged pipe, you might be able to loosen things up by pouring cups of hot water down the drain. You’ll want to avoid liquid pipe cleaning chemicals, as the basic, store-bought ones can damage your pipes. It’s better to call the plumber at that point instead.

While there are a few basic kitchen plumbing solutions you can do yourself, it’s always best to leave the repairs and replacements to trained plumbers like us at Rainbow Plumbing & Heating. You can give us a call if you would like to schedule our services.
